Friday Free-For-All

Happiness is NOT

Having to sit on Highway 9 while it was shut down either for the OU players or other VIP's to get their charter busses off campus and on their way to the airport.

Being late for work after sitting there forever.

Being late for work when there's a very important grant meeting going on the the front room of the office.

Sneaking away from the parking lot to the grounds so the nice board members and grant-givers won't see your tardiness and your lack of 'authentic costume' because it's in the closet behind the area where they are sitting and you can't get to it.

Being yelled at by a co-worker for all of the above even though the site manager told you everyting was OK in a much nicer voice than he normally uses.

Happiness IS...

The rest of your co-workers going out of their way to make sure you don't spend the rest of your day feeling stupid.

Remembering you have a cell phone and calling up one of your oldest and closest friends to gripe about how annoyed you were when you were yelled at today.

Setting up a lunch date with that friend for next week at your place of employment. (Yell at me in front of Lanie, why don't ya?!)

Coming home to a school full of teachers and who love you.

Picking up a car load of children who love you.

Dropping that car load of children off at a friend's house for the evening.

Going home by way of Atwoods and planting some flowers around the yard for one last burst of color before Fall begins in earnest.

Going to run the church errand for which you commissioned the babysitting only to find it's been cancelled.

Going to Wal-Mart ALONE.

Picking up some, but not all, of the aforementioned children and going to your grandmother's house.

Your grandmother making you a nice dinner and cleaning up after it.

Playing Scrabble late into the night with your Grandmother, your Dad, and your cousin, but not your mom because she is out of town.

Having your grandmother wipe the floor with you in the final Scrabble score.

Having your grandmother living close by for the first time since 1980.

Having all the good memories of visiting her in Las Vegas and Seattle before she moved back home.

Having all the children remaining in your care tonight fall asleep on the drive home.

Blogging in the late-night quiet.

Your husband getting a last-minute reprieve from working mandatory overtime this weekend.

All in all, not a bad 24 hours.

Oh, this was a nice post. I am actually in the middle of composing a similarly themed "things currently making me happy" post.

The site manager is always nice. It ain't rocket science out here, I know several that think it is but it ain't.

Start expecting regular controversial comments from me. I love to play devils advocate.
